Manchester Marathon Delivers On Big Stage
Elite performances and huge crowds mark another landmark day in the North...
The Manchester Marathon once again delivered a huge day of racing on Sunday, with tens of thousands of runners taking to the streets for one of Europe’s biggest marathon events.
With over 40,000 participants and massive crowds lining the route, the event reinforced its reputation as one of the UK’s leading marathons, combining a fast course with unrivalled support across Greater Manchester.
At the front of the race, Yohan Lidove claimed victory in the men’s event, crossing the line in 2:15:19 after a closely fought contest. He was followed home by Will Rainsford in 2:15:43 and Chris Brisley in 2:16:04, underlining the depth of quality in this year’s field.
In the women’s race, Naomi Robinson produced a standout performance to take the win in 2:36:57. She held off strong challenges from Heather Townsend, who finished in 2:37:42, and Louise Flynn, who secured third place in 2:44:23.
The wheelchair race also saw impressive performances, with Callum Hall taking victory in 1:47:35 to round off a strong morning of elite competition.
Away from the elite field, thousands of runners of all abilities made their way around the flat course, which is widely regarded as one of the fastest marathon routes in the UK. The route through Trafford, Sale, Altrincham and back into the city centre once again delivered a vibrant atmosphere, with supporters out in force from start to finish.
With its combination of elite racing, mass participation and electric support, the Manchester Marathon continues to grow in stature, firmly cementing its place as one of the standout events in the North’s running calendar.
