Castle To Castle In Scotland
Rat Race 100 unveils stunning new Edinburgh to Glamis route for 2026...
The adventure specialists at Rat Race have revealed the location for their 2026 ultra event - and it promises to be an unforgettable journey through some of Scotland’s most iconic scenery. The newly announced Castle to Castle edition will see runners tackle 100 miles from the historic Edinburgh Castle all the way to the fairytale towers of Glamis Castle.
Set for the weekend of 18-20 July 2026, this epic point-to-point challenge is more than just another ultra - it’s a fully supported and fully waymarked adventure that will lead participants along a spectacular coastal path, through charming Scottish towns, past the legendary fairways of St Andrews and finally inland towards the shadow of the Cairngorms for a grandstand finish at Glamis.
Known for their 'Rat-tastic' events, Rat Race are experts in creating bucket-list experiences and this one looks set to be their most scenic and accessible 100-mile ultra yet. The generous 2.5mph average completion pace allows participants plenty of time to enjoy the journey, make use of sleep stations and even pause for longer rest breaks within the 48-hour cut-off.
With nine legendary Pit Stops along the route and all the logistical support you’d expect from Rat Race - including vehicles, medics, welfare teams, live tracking and shuttle transfers - participants can focus on the challenge ahead and soak up the incredible scenery without worrying about the map. Finishers can look forward to one of the biggest medals in Rat Race’s UK ultra series, a bespoke Rat Race 100 rat rag (buff) and the satisfaction of having covered 100 miles from one Scottish castle to another.
Entries open on Thursday 17 April at 8pm, and as with every Rat Race adventure, places are expected to sell fast. Whether you’re a seasoned ultra runner or someone looking to take on the challenge of a lifetime, Castle to Castle is set to be one of 2026’s most talked-about endurance events.
