Target This Trail Run
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to run at RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria...
This month (24 September), Trail Outlaws will once again join forces with RAF Spadeadam and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) to provide runners with an out of this world opportunity to take part in a trail half marathon and 10 mile bergen challenge at the historic RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria.
The RAF Spadeadam Half Marathon & 10 Mile Bergen Challenge allows those taking part to run around the historic base that was part of the UK's missile project during the cold war. The course offers stunning views, winding its way around and through Spadeadam Forest with views over to the Lake District and Sycamore Gap on Hadrians Wall.
With numerous RAF practice targets and tanks along the route, it is a run that offers a unique opportunity. Those opting for the 10 mile bergen challenge will also need to carry a 35lb pack!
Speaking about the impending event, organisers said: "Entries will close soon for this event so we can give the RAF a list for base entry so get in before it's too late. This is your chance to adventure around an active RAF base which is normally closed to the general public. See old military vehicles around the route from small tanks to big Radars. Along with stunning views across the Solway to the Lake District and Scotland.
"Trail Outlaws are delighted to be co-hosts of this event and we have to give full credit to the team at the base and the Royal Air Force Benevolent fund that want to see this race continue and grow."
Richard Bateson of Blyth Running Club won the 2022 race in a time of 1:30:26 while the women's race was won by Joanna Beckett of Crook AC in a fantastic time of 1:46:58, this put Joanna in eighth place overall!
