Event Overview:
Taking place before the reserve officially opens to the public, the event offers you exclusive access to the animals as you weave your way past over 70 species including three species of rhinos, tigers and western lowland gorillas.
Port Lympne is a world leader in captive breeding of black rhino, which has enabled the Reserve to release rhinos in collaboration with their partners at internationally-renowned conservation charity The Aspinall Foundation. To date, The Aspinall Foundation has successfully rewilded 8 black rhinos and those rhinos are successfully breeding in the wild, with 25 rhino births and a total of 60 wild descendants, so far!
The Aspinall Foundation charity team in South Africa are on-call 24-7 to rapidly respond to rhinos in desperate need. Recently, they rescued two orphan rhinos whose families were slaughtered, dehorned dozens of rhinos to protect them from the attention of poachers, provided food for starving rhinos during a period of severe drought and fitted tracking collars to many more animals, ensuring they can be safely monitored and protected. This vital work is only possible thanks to the generosity of the charity’s friends and supporters.
Course Details:
The course will take you through hundreds of acres of Port Lympne’s iconic Reserve in the Kent countryside, running amongst the many enclosures. This course is multi-terrain and undulating throughout. The route includes challenging hills and enables runners to set their PB in the incredible setting of the county’s largest wildlife park.
