Running Buddies Look Ahead To New Half!
Historic town to stage its first half marathon in 2026...
Paisley is preparing to host its first ever half marathon in 2026 with a spring date of 22 March the one for your diaries. The debut event will bring thousands of runners onto the town's streets with participants racing through Paisley’s historic heart, taking in some of its most recognisable landmarks, including the iconic Paisley Abbey, which has stood for nearly nine centuries.
The race hopes to welcome a wide range of runners, from elites chasing fast times to club runners, charity fundraisers and first-timers looking to be part of a landmark moment. Organisers expect the event to become a major fundraising opportunity for both local good causes and national charities.
Local support is expected to play a vital role in the success of the inaugural edition. Residents and businesses are being encouraged to get behind the race and help create an atmosphere that will put Paisley firmly on the UK running map.
The course begins and ends on Gilmour Street beside County Square, providing a lively town centre setting for both the start and finish. Runners will then loop around the imposing Paisley Abbey before heading towards St Mirren Park.
An out-and-back section along Canteen Road offers a chance to find a strong rhythm before the route continues to Linwood Road and onto the Paisley cycle track. This tree-lined stretch provides one of the most scenic and flowing parts of the course before runners re-enter the town at Canal Street. The final miles build towards a spirited finish along the High Street, where large crowds are expected to line the route and cheer runners home.
With a mix of historic surroundings, fast stretches and strong community involvement, organisers believe the Paisley Half Marathon will quickly establish itself as a must-run event. Race director Dave Wild says: "The course has been designed to showcase the very best of the town, from its rich history to its welcoming atmosphere.
"Race day on 22 March will mark the beginning of what we hope will become a long-running tradition, giving athletes from across Scotland, the UK and beyond the chance to say they were there at the very start."
