'Appy Days For parkrun

The world of parkrun trivia at your fingertips...

The hugely popular 5K app has officially joined the parkrun family. The developer, Michael Clayton of Clayton Industries, joined the parkrun staff on Monday, 1 December 2025, after liaising with the team for three months to transfer ownership and future development. Michael is pictured above at Hogmoor Inclosure parkrun.

If you are not familiar with the 5K app, now also known as the 5K parkrunner results app – it features a white silhouette of a running figure on a solid purple background – then you should definitely take a look.

Have you ever thought how great it would be if there were a way to track all your various parkrun results, time progression, volunteering record, milestones, challenges, attendance record, and detailed analysis, all in one place? Well, all that and more is available in the 5K app, and there will be further exciting developments following the 'marriage' with parkrun.

All you need to do is download the 5K app, enter your parkrun barcode number, and you will have the fascinating world of parkrun trivia at your fingertips. A word of warning here. Once you enter the 5K app, you may disappear into a world of stats for hours!

runABC writer Alan Newman checked out the 5K app on the occasion of his 200th parkrun. Some time later, he emerged with the knowledge that he had completed 14 of the most popular parkrun challenges – some more than once – without even realising! He also learned he had volunteered 126 times and the greatest distance between two parkruns he'd completed was 1,541km (Exmouth and Gdansk, Poland)!

Michael Clayton developed the 5K app in 2019 at the suggestion of a friend. What started as a fun hobby for a few parkrun friends is now becoming his career, as Michael explains: "Joining the parkrun team means I can take this app further than ever before. I’m excited to work alongside people who share the same values of inclusivity, wellbeing, and community spirit. My hope is to make the app a tool that helps even more people discover parkrun, track their journey, and feel part of something bigger."

At the launch of the new partnership, Elizabeth Duggan, Interim CEO of parkrun, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the ‘5k’ app and its founder, Michael, into the parkrun family. It presents a huge opportunity to create an enhanced digital experience for parkrunners and to transform the way we communicate with the entire parkrun community. We will be actively collaborating with the community throughout our digital transformation, and we look forward to going on this journey together.”
