Spellbinding Trail Race To Debut In 2026
Scotland’s dark history will comes to life in a new 24-hour endurance challenge...
A brand new endurance event is set to cast its spell over the West of Scotland next spring as the WitchWood Trail Run arrives at Everton Scout Camp in Inverkip on 16 May. Blending local history with trail running adventure, the event invites participants to take on as many laps as they wish across a full 24 hours through the ancient WitchWood, an area once linked to Scotland’s witch trials between 1640 and 1690.
Designed for runners of all abilities, the challenge allows participants complete freedom to start, stop and rest whenever they choose. The course covers a 5.6K loop of forest, fields and twisting trails, offering technical terrain, rolling hills and atmospheric woodland scenery. With no set distance and no cut-offs, runners are encouraged to do as much or as little as they wish before joining fellow participants at basecamp for food, refreshments or a well-earned rest.
Everton Scout Camp will serve as the heart of the event, providing toilets, showers, mains water and even beds for those looking to recharge between laps. Supporters, families and children are welcome, contributing to a lively festival-style atmosphere featuring local food, live music and a huge firepit to keep spirits high throughout the day and night.
All finishers will earn a handcrafted WitchWood medal inspired by Inverkip’s mystical heritage. Runners who complete up to 10 laps will receive the Bronze medal, while those achieving between 11 and 24 laps will take home the Silver. Anyone who conquers 25 or more laps within the 24-hour window will claim the coveted Black Medal, marking the ultimate level of endurance.
