North Linc's Normanby Adventure Race returns on 29 March, marking its 11th year with the introduction of a brand new 5K distance alongside the classic 10K event. Taking place at Normanby Hall near Scunthorpe, the event is run over the venue’s cross country horse course and is known for its mud-filled, obstacle-packed route.
Organisers say: "Runners can expect water, sand, crawl nets, jumps, hills and even the occasional swamp, with the exact conditions depending very much on the weather in the lead up to race day. Walking, jogging and running are all encouraged, making it as much about adventure and fun as it is about speed."
The Normanby Adventure Race has built a legendary reputation over the years, earning two national top ten awards for its great value and fun-filled atmosphere. Designed on a course originally built for horses and ponies, the route has been enthusiastically conquered by athletes of all abilities, creating an event that is both challenging and hugely entertaining.
New for 2026 is the addition of a 5K wave - a single loop of the main adventure race course has been slightly adapted and is open to runners aged 12 and over. The new distance has been introduced following strong demand and offers a more accessible entry point for those new to adventure racing. The 10K wave features two full laps of the course, including a return visit to the event’s infamous on-course water features.
Those looking for an extra challenge can choose to take part in both distances on the day by completing the 5K wave followed by the 10K wave provided they have completed the first 5K in 1hr 15mins. Regardless, all adult finishers receive a medal and a well-earned slice of cake, with runners able to add an optional themed event T-shirt designed especially for the year.
The event also includes a junior Bale Jumper race for children aged four to 11, offering a fun mini adventure around the hall grounds. All junior participants receive a medal and sweets at the finish, making it a highlight of the day for younger runners.
