Sydney may not be the seventh wonder of the world, but on Sunday, 31st August 2025, the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS became the seventh Abbott World Marathon Major!

Sydney officially entered the AWMM series as it joined the Tokyo Marathon, Boston Marathon by Bank of America, TCS London Marathon, BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and TCS New York City Marathon in the global series.

The TCS Sydney Marathon is the largest in Oceania and saw a record 20,272 finishers on 15th September 2024, allowing it to pass its second consecutive year of assessment to become an AWMM marathon. The added kudos of AWMM status saw a new record of just under 33,000 finishers in 2025, with huge international interest and participants from 117 countries, cheered on by hundreds of thousands of spectators.
