Runners now on their own for New Year Virtual Road Challenge

Tier restrictions lead to change in rules for latest SA virtual event

Mainland Scotland’s plunge into Tier 4 restrictions for the next few weeks has meant a change to the rules of the latest scottishathletics virtual event.

With the removal of the ‘field of play’ bubble from Boxing Day for most of Scotland, all runs logged for the Lindsays Virtual Road Challenge, to be held over the weekend of 8–11 January, must now be completed solo.

The heightened level of restrictions also means group runs supervised by a coach at a track or on the road are no longer acceptable.

Runners taking part must also follow the current restrictions in place for travel, and complete their runs as close to home as possible, without travelling between local authority areas. All age groups are eligible for this short-distance vtirual road challenge, from U11 (1.5km) through to seniors and masters (8km).

Entries close on Thursday, 7 January, with eligible runs to be submitted by noon on Tuesday 12 January.

In addition to being a good way to blow out the festive season cobwebs, performances from this challenge will also be taken into account for the invitation-only Inter-District Match in Inverness currently scheduled – coronavirus restrictions not withstanding – for 30 January.
