New parkrun for Yorkshire

This Yorkshire coastal location has recently joined the parkrun party...

There's a new parkrun for Yorkshire, and with it being a coastal venue it is a real beauty. The first Withernsea Promenade parkrun took place on 27 July and at the weekend celebrated its fifth outing with 127 participants taking part.

Speaking after the inaugural run, the Race Director commented: "We had a fantastic turn out last week to run, jog and walk 5K along the beautiful Withernsea coastline. The weather was fantastic and the atmosphere was even better." Someone who took part, Anne McHardy, said: "Thank you it was a fantastic morning. Great course and very friendly. Will be back"

The 5K route consists of three laps of Withernsea’s stunning promenade with flat paths heading south past the RNLI centre. Continuing south, runners reach and loop around a grassed area near Seacroft Rd and Louville Ave before returning to the promenade. After the last lap, the finish area is located in the same area as the start.

Encouraging locals to come along and take part, organisers say: "You can run and get that new PB or just get some fresh air and walk the route. Make it a family event and come with buggies and puppies. Just want to be part of something great? You can leave the 5K to the others and volunteer and cheer on those taking the challenge. Our volunteers are a great bunch that have put in so much hard work to bring this weekly event to Withernsea."

There have been five events so far with 646 finishers across those events, the average finish time is 30:48 and there have been 58 PBs. So, while it is just the start of this particular parkrun's journey, there are still plenty more stats to be made and recorded.
