New summer 10K for Loch Morlich
Entries are now open for the new Loch Morlich 10K, part of the recently launched Loch Morlich Running Festival, to be held on Sunday, 4 August.
The family-friendly Festival is organised by Fitnessat58degrees, whose summer and winter Loch Morlich 5K Fun Runs have grown in popularity over the last few years.
The Festival’s 5K Fun Run will be open to ‘total beginners or elite runners’ and can be walked, jogged or run – but it is not suitable for buggies. The new 10K will be two loops of the Fun Run course, offering runners the chance to ‘push themselves twice the distance with the Cairngorm Mountains as their backdrop’.
Runners should be aware that they will need to push themselves a little bit more than they might have otherwise thought: the actual distance of the shorter event is 5.6km, making the 10K a generous 11.2km.
Both races start at the Hayfield, Glenmore, and take runners through the forests around the loch. Both events offer runners stunning views of the Cairngorms, and finish on the beach at Loch Morlich.
Unlike many races that benefit a charity, the runners taking on the races at Loch Morlich are helping to support the organiser and owner of Fitnessat58degrees, Sam Cairns. Sam competes for Team GB in the sport of Cross Country Skiing and all funds raised from the event will go directly towards helping him with training and racing to help him continue to compete internationally.
Entry fees for both races include a professionally led warm-up, course timing, medals, home baking at the finish and professionally taken photos to keep free of charge.
