Newton Road Races returns to Cambuslang on Saturday 24 October, but the event carries a significance extending well beyond times and finishing positions. The 10K and junior 3K are held in memory of Newton Road Runners member Cat Gaskell, who tragically lost her life in August 2021.

For her clubmates, the races provide an opportunity to honour Cat and remember the runner she was while bringing the wider running community together for an afternoon beside the Clyde.

The junior 3K starts proceedings at 11:15am and is open to runners aged 15 and under, with children under 11 accompanied by an adult. The 10K follows at noon and is open to runners aged over 15.

Both races start at Westburn Hall and use an out and back route along the Clyde path. The well maintained tarmac surface, absence of road crossings and predominantly flat profile make the 10K particularly suited to faster running, although there are a couple of small hills to interrupt the rhythm.

The course is officially measured, the event holds a Scottish Athletics licence and timing is by chip. Finishers receive a goodie bag, while prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female runners. Newton Road Runners has also teamed up with Stomp Socks for additional prizes in 2026.

There are plenty of reasons to chase a quick time on the Clyde path, particularly on a course designed to let runners find their stride. But at Newton Road Races, the most important reason for gathering on the start line remains the same: running together in memory of Cat.
