New 5K Series For Merseyside

Get organised for winter and sign up to this new 5k series...

Is it too early to start talking about winter races? I'm not going to go all Santa Dash on you… yet! But for those among us who like to plan well ahead, news of BTR Liverpool's Winter 5K Series will be well received.

The three-race series takes place in and around Merseyside and kicks off in September with the Autumn Leaves event in Arrowe Park, Birkenhead on 25 September. Arrowe Park provides an excellent backdrop for off road running and with a peak autumnal date for race day, runners can be assured of a beautiful atmosphere with leaves descending throughout the park. If you like your runs off road then this is perfect venue to race in a relaxed environment - with a bit of challenge along the way.

Fast forward to November (5th) when the second event in the series will take place on Hoylake Promenade. The Bonfire Blast offers something a bit different from btr as it is the organiser's first night run, so night lights are essential! With Hoylake Sailing Club hosting their annual firework display on the beach this new 5K run will take place shortly before the fireworks start. Timed to coincide with the display, runners will be encouraged to stay after the 5K and watch the fireworks and enjoy the bonfire.

And then it is December and time for the last race in the series - A Winter's Trail which is scheduled for 31 December and will take place on the Wirral Way between West Kirby and Thurstaston. If you have not been to Royden Park before then it offers a great 5K route around the park with a bit of a challenge along the way. Organisers warn that this course is a bit more demanding than Arrowe Park in the first race so be prepared for one final effort to get you round this very scenic park.

And what do you get for your efforts, you may ask. Well this is what race organisers have to say: "If you like your bling then the medals will be superior quality with a lot of colour and glitz! They will certainly stand out in any medal collection."
