Tower to Tower Endurance Challenge Team

Nathan Embarks On Monumental Charity Challenge

Local businessman and Newcastle AC stalwart Nathan Walton is part of an inspirational team undertaking the Tower to Tower 2018 challenge. They are cycling, rowing and trekking 560km for the Donna Louise Hospice.

This ultimate endurance event started yesterday (Monday 28 May) at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and will finish at Tower Bridge, London on Thursday (31 May). In that time Nathan and Co will have covered the challenging distance via bikes, boats and boots to raise more than £170,000 for the hospice while suffering from pain, sea sickness and exhaustion over the four days.

Nathan is an experienced athlete with an impressive running and cycling pedigree. A trustee at Donna Louise, he has a big heart to match his sporting ambitions, raising thousands for charity over the last 30 years including 15 years at the hospice. No mean feat especially when balancing the competing demands of work and family with training for this event.

He and his partner Helen McCarthy have five children between them, one of whom is on the autism spectrum and so requires additional care. However, Nathan’s passion and commitment to the work undertaken by the hospice allied to a sense of humour always sees him through.

Nathan Walton took part in the first Tower to Tower challenge in 2015, a rowing event that was tough to say the least! The bar is set even higher this time as the team of 12 determined individuals face all manner of obstacles as they complete three stages from Paris to London.

Many people would consider this an insurmountable challenge but as Nathan says: “the families that use the hospice face challenges and sleep deprivation every day so if my efforts help them and give them respite then it’s all worthwhile.”

Good luck from everyone at runABC Midlands.
