Another sell-out year for MOK Run
Runners keen to take on the 15th edition of the Mull of Kintyre Run (23–24 May) need to be quick.
Entries went live at 9am on Sunday, and as of early Tuesday morning, nearly all were gone. Places for the junior run, increased this year specifically to cope with demand, were the first to sell out.
Adult entries are limited to 1000, split across the 10K and the Half Marathon, with no reserve list or swaps allowed for any of the events, including the juniors. Runners lucky enough to secure their places, however, may change between events until 1 May should their circumstances (or training) dictate.
The MOK 10K is run around three sides of scenic Campbeltown Loch, and is flat and gives serious PB potential. The MOK Half Marathon leaves the confines of the town and heads out to the countryside. The route runs for about a kilometre on the hard sandy beach of Westport, the highlight for most visitors taking on the challenge.
Established in Campbeltown 2006, what has come to be known as ‘MOK Run’ has been voted the UK’s top race in Runner’s World many times. It has become famous as much for its ‘picturesque location’, ‘fantastic atmosphere’ and very generous goody bags as for its post-race celebrations involving locally made Danish pastries and ceilidh dancing.
You’ll need to run the race (or volunteer) to get your free Danish, but tickets still remain for the popular post-run ceilidh, open to runners and non-runners alike.
