Raising Money On The Runway
Aberdeen's Midnight Run raises thousands for local charities...
Aberdeen International Airport hosted its sixth annual Aberdeen Runway Run at the weekend (23 August), raising more than £65,000 for two local charities. Almost 400 participants took part in the 4K run along the airport’s illuminated runway, with funds going to AberNecessities and Fersands and Fountain. Both organisations provide vital support to families and communities across the region.
Robert Paterson, Head of Operations at Aberdeen International Airport, said: "We’re pleased to see another strong turnout for the Runway Run, which has become a much-anticipated event in our calendar. It’s a great way to bring people together while supporting causes that make a real difference locally.”
CHC Helicopter Captain Ryan Broadhurst, who founded the Runway Run, said: "It’s always rewarding to see the community come together for this unique experience. The atmosphere on the night was fantastic, and we’re grateful to everyone who took part or helped behind the scenes.”
The money raised will make a real difference to hundreds of families in the community. Danielle Flecher-Horn, Founder of AberNecessities, said that the funds raised would enable them to provide essential items for local disadvantaged children and that her team, including Bertie the Bear, had enjoyed cheering runners on while raising awareness of their work.
There were over 350 runners taking part on the night with Jordan Cruickshank racing to victory in 12:39, while Alyth Gollan was the fastest female, crossing the line in 14:37.
Final word though goes to the organisers, who had this to say: "A final thank you to all those whose energy and generosity lit up the runway and made a real difference to families across Aberdeen. Whether you ran, donated, cheered or helped behind the scenes - this achievement belongs to you. We couldn’t have done it without you!"
