Magic mile is third SA virtual challenge
Entries are now open for the third of scottishathletics’ virtual challenges, a one-mile time trial. Runners of all ages – from U13 to Masters – are encouraged to sign up to take part by midnight on Thursday, 7 May.
Runs must be completed between midnight on Friday, 8 May and 23.59pm on Monday, 11 May and submitted by noon on Tuesday, 12 May.
In addition to all runs being compatible with the current government guidelines on social distancing and exercise, the following rules also apply:
- Point to point runs are not allowed
- Laps must not be shorter than 1km
- Runs must start and finish at the same point
- Runs with a net loss in elevation are not allowed
All runs must be completed solo, other than those logged by U13 athletes (who must be supervised by a responsible household member at all times) and U15 athletes (who should be accompanied if appropriate).
Results will be tallied in three different categories, including: best time by individual age and gender; best time by a four-person mixed team (two male and two female athletes in the same age group from the same club); best time by a four-person team (four people from the same club in the same age group).
scottishathletics’ virtual challenges are proving very popular, with over 1100 solo runs logged for their last effort, a 15-Minute Challenge.
Fife AC’s Steph Pennycook won the women’s category, by logging a 4.56-km run in Leeds for her 15-minute effort; Edinburgh AC’s Andy Fyfe ran 5.04k in London’s Battersea Park, to take the men’s crown.
Glasgow-based Bellahouston Road Runners took top team prize for logging an impressive 259.16 km, beating Edinburgh-based clubs Harmeny AC and Corstorphine AAC to second and third places respectively.
Overall, nearly 70 different clubs were represented in the final tally, which saw runs completed in mainland Scotland, on the islands and in other countries too.
