Linlithgow's Great Day Of Running

Linlithgow 10K took place at the weekend with fast times for many...

One of the Central Belt's most popular races had its day in the sun at the weekend. The Linlithgow 10K was back for its 29th outing on Sunday with over 700 runners taking part in the main event.

Organised by Linlithgow Athletic Club, any funds raised at the not-for-profit event support the work the club does in promoting and providing opportunities for athletics in their local community. And it is a truly local event - with around 40% of the event’s participants coming from the local area.

Following the success of the introduction of pacers at last year's race, participants were once again able to benefit from this, helping them make their way round the ‘undulating’ and ‘quite challenging’ route. A spokesperson from the organising committee said: "We hope you all enjoyed the event yesterday, our biggest ever. Based on feedback from the runners a special thanks goes out to the pacers for helping a good few runners achieve PBs."

Indeed, Helen Stroud commented on Facebook: "Brilliant race, well-organised and great atmosphere. Pacers were a great help. I really enjoyed it, will definitely be back."

Ali Hay won the race in 31:19 while Rebecca Burns won the women's race in a time of 37:32. A spokesperson from Linlithgow AC said: "That's a sixth title for Ali and a fourth for Rebecca. They both went home with £200 in prize money and other goodies."

Second and third places went to James Waldie (33:32) and Fraser Holman (33:50) for the men and Nicole Jackson (39:54) and Jenny Maclean (40:03) for the women.

129 children took part in the junior fun run - and fun it was! Dan McGuire won the race in 06:52 while first girl home was Jemma MacLeod in 07:51.
