Leeds next up in Run for All’s Spring catalogue

Following hot on the footsteps of last month's Sheffield Half Marathon, the Run For All Team are set to make their presence felt again at the upcoming Asda Foundation Leeds Half Marathon. Like its sister race in the Steel City, the West Yorkshire event is prominent in the sporting calendar, with over 7,000 runners expected to compete on Sunday 12 May.

Celebrating what will be its 34th edition, Leeds Half has become a permanent and popular fixture in the region and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes. This year's partner charities include, among others, Alzheimer's Society, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, The Children’s Air Ambulance Macmillan Cancer Support and Leeds Children’s Hospital.

The race starts at 9.30am in The Headrow and the course takes the field out of the city centre, along Meanwood Road, Stonegate Road, a section of the Ring Road, down Butcher Hill and Hawksworth Road, along Abbey Road and Kirkstall Road and back into the city centre to finish in Cookridge Street alongside Millennium Square.

Last year saw Mohammed Abu-Rezeq successfully defend his title improving on his 2017 time. The Altrincham runner crossed the line in 1:08:06 over a minute quicker than Chris Oddy (1:09:37) of Serpentine in second place. Matt Chipping took third in 1:12:49.

Pontefract’s Faye Banks followed up a strong performance at Manchester Marathon 2018 with a superb victory in 1:22:05, more than six minutes ahead of second placed Lindsey Clegg (1:28:19), with Haley O’Conner in third (1:30:14).

Look out for runABC North’s race report shortly after the action takes place.
