Second SA Virtual Road Challenge now live
Re-run of virtual road challenge allows runners to measure their progress over last six weeks
Entries are now open for the second Lindsays Virtual Road Challenge event organised by scottishathletics.
As with the first Virtual Road Challenge, held from 22–27 October, participants in the U20, Senior and Masters’ categories can choose their own distance event: 3k, 5k or 10k.
Qualifying runs should be completed between midnight, Friday 4 December until 23.59 on Monday, 7 December and submitted to scottishathletics in the usual way. Registration must be completed by midnight on Thursday, 3 December, and costs £2.
Runs completed on a certified synthetic running track are admissible for this edition of the virtual road challenge, provided they are supervised by a UKA licensed coach and backed up by suitable GPS data. Club group runs organised and supervised by a UKA qualified coach are also acceptable.
Leaderboards will be compiled for both individual (based on age and gender) and club (combined distance and single race distance) performances.
Even with a limited return to racing in some areas of the country, the scottishathletics virtual challenges are still proving popular. Well over 1000 runs were logged for the Virtual 3K Challenge held a fortnight ago.
Many of those performances will earn their runners a place at the Lindsays Short Course XC, due to be held over the weekend of 5/6 December at a venue still to be confirmed.
Lindsays National XC gold and silver medallists, Jamie Crowe (Central AC) and Jonny Glen (Inverclyde AC) topped the 3k leaderboard 8:15, with James Donald of Dundee Hawkhill third at 8:19.
Rebecca Johnson of Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds was quickest female at 9:29, followed incredibly closely by Megan Keith (Inverness Harriers) at 9:30 and Sarah Calvert (Livingston) at 9.32.
