New parkrun For Northumberland

Kirkharle Courtyard parkrun nade its debut on a crisp Northumberland morning...

Northumberland’s parkrun community has welcomed a new addition with the launch of Kirkharle Courtyard parkrun, which held its inaugural event at the weekend (29 November). Set within the picturesque Kirkharle Estate near Newcastle, the event attracted 51 runners and was supported by an impressive 31 volunteers.

The course takes participants through a scenic blend of permanent paths, trails and estate roads, beginning with a downhill start before settling into a gently undulating route across fields and tracks. Runners finish through a meadow section that showcases the character of the estate.

Despite the cold but bright conditions, spirits were high as 50 newcomers completed the course for the first time. Representatives from 12 clubs took part, with volunteers and visitors praising the friendly atmosphere and stunning rural backdrop. No personal bests were recorded on debut day although organisers noted that the terrain makes it an enjoyable and varied challenge for all abilities.

Organisers say: "Our event has been made possible through support from Penney Petroleum and the Ray Wind Trust, along with the Anderson family who have granted use of the estate. We will rely heavily on marshals to help manage the various sections and gates along the course as well as support parking and keep the event running smoothly. Please get in touch if you can help at a future event."

Facilities on site include a café, a small playground, a shop and toilets and, each week, participants are invited to join the team for a post-run coffee at The Running Fox.
