Everyone welcome at Jedburgh Running Festival
Entries to what must be the UK’s most inclusive running weekend have just opened.
The Jedburgh Running Festival will be held over two days, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October.
The first day will see 300 runners take to the hills, in the eighth edition of the Three Peaks Ultramarathon, an event organised separately, but run in association with the Festival.
Also taking place will be the ultramarathon relay, the same 38-mile route broken down into sections of 10, 7, 11 and 10 miles, but run in teams of four. And in mandatory fancy dress.
Runners hoping to take part in the relay should note that registration for the event will only be open until 8pm this Sunday (2 June), after which time a ballot will take place to choose the 25 teams that will take part. Priority will be given to teams whose runners have previously marshalled at the Three Peaks Ultra before and/or at other similar Scottish races.
Two Canicross races – a 7.5k long course and a 1.5k short course – will also be held on the first day of the Festival.
Festival Sunday is given over to the tarmac, with the half-marathon, 10k and wheelchair and handbike events.
This year, the half marathon, the 17th edition of the race, will be part of the East District Half Marathon Championships.
Jedburgh’s reputation for inclusivity – the management team behind the Ultra are signatories of the Scottish LGBT Sports Charter – extends to the warm welcome the Festival as a whole offers disabled spectators, marshalls, runners and volunteers.
Jedburgh runners and organisers are known to be generous too. Last year, donations from runners registering for the road races raised £870 for the My Name’5 Doddy Foundation; this year’s charity is Cancer Research UK.
Entries to the road races close Wednesday, 23 October, and must be made online. There will be no entries on the day.
Male, female and non-binary changing/showering facilities will be provided.
