Charity Running On Lewis
Who'll be the fastest football team at this year's Leanne Fund races...
A charity running event on the Isle of Lewis is set to return this summer as the Leanne Fund 5K and 10K takes place on 6 June at Sgoil an Rubha, one of the island's schools. The annual event in Stornoway continues to bring the local community together in support of families across Scotland affected by cystic fibrosis.
Runners and supporters of all abilities are expected to take part in what has become a colourful fixture in the island’s sporting calendar. Rainbow themed fancy dress has become a popular tradition with familiar faces returning each year alongside first time entrants keen to be part of the occasion.
The 5K and 10K races will see participants follow a scenic route before gathering for a shared post race lunch, with entry fees deliberately kept at the same level since the event began to ensure it remains accessible. Every participant will receive a commemorative medal.
A distinctive feature of the event is its football club rivalry, with a special trophy awarded to the fastest football team. The prize is currently held by Point FC, and organisers say island clubs are already being encouraged to challenge for the title this year.
