Trot Off The Turkey This Xmas
Runners in Aberdeen can sign up for this festive relay event set for post Christmas...
If you are looking for something to rescue you from the impact of festive over-indulgence and you happen to live in Aberdeen or the surrounding area then get yourself along to the Hidden Peak Turkey Trot on 27 December.
Based in north east Scotland, Hidden Peak Running Group is managed by international runners Robbie Simpson and Fraser Clyne and offers personal training, group running sessions and training camps. Speaking about their Christmas offering, they said: "We are pleased to invite you all to join us for a special Hidden Peak Turkey Trot. It is a winter daylight session to get you off the couch and away from the TV - with the added bonus of being able to sweat away some of the unwanted effects of consuming a little too much food and drink!"
The event will take place at Aberdeen's Duthie Park and will follow a relay format. Organisers say: "Relays are a tremendous way of improving your speed in a fun way while also generating a friendly competitive spirit of camaraderie among the group.
"Many of our regulars will know that we enjoy throwing in a relay at the end of many of our sessions. And this session is all about relays - three of them in fact!"
The event will tackle a variety of distances in a couple of different formats. The session will kick off with teams of two tackling a flat 400m circuit for around 10 minutes. It will then move on to a slightly more undulating 300m circuit, again being tackled by teams of two, again for around 10 minutes. With the aim of picking up the tempo as those participating move through the session, the event will finish off with the shortest relay, 100m, this time featuring teams of three running for 8-10 minutes.
Organisers conclude: "There will be a recovery period between each part of the session and everyone will be teamed up with runners of similar pace. There's also our usual warm-up/activation and cool down routines. It is worth noting that our sessions are suitable for all runners regardless of pace.
"We are a friendly group and always keen to help newcomers - so come along - and bring a friend.
Coaching, encouragement and good advice will be on hand throughout."
