Be Part Of Scotland’s Greatest
The countdown is well and truly on for Glasgow's greatest running event...
Are you ready to take on Scotland’s greatest running event at this year’s AJ Bell Great Scottish Run on Sunday 6 October? It's a great day in the city, and definitely one you should experience for yourself. In fact, your correspondent took part in the half marathon last year and can vouch for a 'second-to-none' race day experience!
One of the highlights of my race day experience was collecting my medal as I crossed the finishline - a proud moment indeed. And looking at this year's medals, it's odds on I will be signing up once again as they look fab - outlined with a unique border, styled with a twist to celebrate the traditional Celtic knot. There’s also 10 or 13 lines on the front of each medal to symbolise the distance covered in each of the two events. You really can't underestimate the feeling you experience on race day, and your unique medal will take you back to those moments.
Both the 10K and half marathon routes will take runners on a tour in and around the fantastic city of Glasgow. Runners start their journey on the iconic start line in George Square, before making their way around the course passing the symbolic Finnieston Crane with views over the River Clyde. If you’re taking on the half marathon route you might even spot the odd Highland Coo as you head through Pollok Country Park.
If it's atmosphere you're after then this race doesn't disappoint, my finisher's medal may have pleased me last year but the cheering and supportive crowds delighted me! It is true that the Glasgow crowd are renowned for their fantastic local support, and with record numbers expected on the start line it promises to be an incredible atmosphere. With bagpipers marking every mile and a host of cheer zones, this is a unique event with plenty to give you a boost on event day.
Whether it’s doing something incredible for charity, for the pure joy as you cross the finish line, or wearing your unique medal with pride at the finish line, head to Glasgow this October and experience it for yourself.
