Festive Runners At The Bolton Bauble

Great baubles of fun at Bolton

The morning’s rain and sleet eased off – thankfully before the start of Sunday’s (15 December) Bolton Bauble 5K, 10K and Fun Run. There were muddy hills to deal with and snow at the summit but the views and sparkling medal were a pleasant surprise.

What a show at this final race of the year from Time2Run Events UK as runners in an array of festive outfits including Christmas trees, Santas, puddings and elves ran one or two laps around Walker Fold Woods. These attractive woods are part of the Smithills Estate owned by the Woodland Trust and include the 310-metre high Winter Hill transmitter at the top.

The 1 Mile Fun Run started at 10am and was held on an out and back course. Followed by the 5K and 10K at 10.30am – the 5K was one lap of the course and the 10K two laps.

This TV transmitter was a distinctive landmark as runners made the long climb whilst trying to stay on their feet. The wintry conditions resulted in several slippery sections that proved to be a test of footwear.

Stuart Smith of Red Rose Road Runners won the 5K in 23:51. Charlotte Corrigan of Hyndburn AC was the winning female in 25:12.

Martin Richardson was the winner in the 10K, crossing the finish line in 50:43. Laura Bell of Winston Runners was the first lady in 54:25.

There were prizes for the top three men and women, fancy dress spot prize and a shiny medal, stocking and selection box for every finisher.

Time2Run Events UK thanked everyone involved with the Woodland Trust singled out for praise saying: “They are a great organisation and very supportive of this race.”
