Runners glad to be racing again at the Gloucester 10K

Hundreds were glad to go at the Gloucester 10K

City event returns to critical acclaim after last year’s cancellation.

It was show time once again at Sunday’s (4 July) Gloucester 10K as runners returned for a tour of this cathedral city via a quick course with enthusiastic volunteers motivating them to the end. For many of the participants, it was their first race in 16 months...

This well organised, marshalled and supported race was also a sightseeing trip in a historical location, taking in the cathedral, quays, docks and park amongst the stunning city's popular tourist attractions. However, these runners were making a flying visit instead of a long stay as they turned their legs over on the mainly flat, traffic-free route, relishing the opportunity to do so once again.

Ben Robinson of Gloucester AC won the 10K in a speedy time of 31:23. Lee Kibble of Forest of Dean AC finished second in 33:30, beating Robinson’s teammate Steve Kenyon into third with 34:13.

Ruby Orchard of PB Running Club won the women’s race in 37:59. Samantha Harris of Forest of Dean AC was second in 38:35 with Anna Midgley of Gloucester AC third in 40:23.

The last runner crossed the line in 1:34:14. Full results are available to view at the RunABC Midlands Race Listings page.

The Gloucester 10K was organised as a not-for-profit event with a community ethos and is sponsored by local businesses with the Gloucester Quays Rotary. The latter were responsible for the excellent marshalling around the course.

All profits from the race are donated to local charities.
