Let's Glasgo' Ladies!
It's back again, Glasgow's Women's 10K!
After a successful comeback in 2023 the Glasgow Women's 10K will return again this year (16 June). The women only event had been sorely missed in recent years and last year organisers were hopeful that its return would be well recieved. It is fair to say they weren't disappointed, a spokesperson commented after the 2023 race: "Today was just incredible, congratulations to each and every one of you who crossed the finish line this weekend."
The old Women's 10K was first launched back in 1993 when it was originally organised by Glasgow City Council. It regularly attracted numbers well in excess of 10,000 in the 90s and early noughties but numbers began to decline before it was finally axed after the 2018 running.
But back to this year's staging. The event will once again start at the spectacular setting of the Riverside Transport Museum. The route then heads east along the River Clyde passing the Glasgow Science Centre, the Armadillo and the Hydro. Runners will then cross over the Clyde and back via both the ’Squinty Bridge' and the George V.
Then it’s into the city centre heading up Buchanan Street to the half way point. The second half of the route will take runners south towards Glasgow Green and the People's Palace, before heading back towards George Square where crowds of spectators will cheer runners home.
A spokesperson for the organisers told runABC Scotland that, amongst others, they are looking to attract runners that perhaps have not done any exercise in a while and are looking for a goal to motivate them. They want women to do something positive together with friends and family and maybe even fundraise for a worthy cause.
