Women's 10K

Guys & Girls Run Glasgow

It was a big weekend of 10K race action in Glasgow...

It was a big weekend of running in Glasgow with both the Men's and Women's 10K events taking to the city's streets. It's always a special day on the calendar for the guys with the event's Father's Day date, but it was equally special for the gals with this year marking the first time a women's only 10K has taken place in Glasgow since 2018.

Thousands of runners toed the start lines with the Riverside Transport Museum providing a spectacular backdrop. Runners then headed east along the River Clyde passing the Glasgow Science Centre, the Armadillo and the Hydro before crossing over the Clyde and back via both the ’Squinty Bridge' and the George V Bridge.

From there runners headed into the city centre up Buchanan Street to the half way point. The second half of the route saw runners go south towards Glasgow Green and the People's Palace, before heading back towards George Square where crowds of spectators cheered them home in true Glaswegian style.

The Glasgow Women's 10K has been been sorely missed in recent years and organisers had been hoping that it would take its rightful place in the running calendar once again. It is fair to say they weren't disappointed, a spokesperson commented after the race: "Today was just incredible, congratulations to each and every one of you who crossed the finish line this weekend. Your dedication, hard work and perseverance have paid off, and we couldn't be prouder of you all.

"Women's 10K Glasgow has been incredible and we loved seeing such a strong, supportive community of women coming together for a great cause. We already can't wait for next year!"

Tony Connelly of Bellahouston Road Runners won the Men's 10K in a time of 32:49, second place went to another Bellahouston Road Runner - Steven Lamb, who clocked 33:12. Completing a hat trick of podium places for the Bellas, Grant Murphy was third in 33:54.

In the Women's 10K, Kelly Taylor was first in 39:48, second went to Naomi Watt in 40:27 and third was claimed by Jessie Gilchrist in 40:37.

The post race chat on social media has been effusive with Robert Hardie commenting on the men's race: "Thanks so much to everybody involved in the event, and to the spectators; different class." While Caroline Wilson said what many felt about the women's event: "Lovely event! So glad to see this return to Glasgow."

The 2024 events will take place on 16 June and early bird prices are currently available for the Women's 10K and the Men's 10K.
