Entries are open for 2026 Robert Rogerson 12.5K as Kirkintilloch looks ahead to its Festival of Running...
Entries are now open for the 2026 Robert Rogerson 12.5K, one of Scotland’s most popular early season road races - previously the Kirkintilloch 12.5K. Registration began yesterday (27 November) and organisers are encouraging runners to act quickly if they want to secure a place for the event which is scheduled for Sunday 15 February.
The race starts outside Gartconner Primary School, which also serves as the finish line. The route follows quiet rural roads around Kirkintilloch and Lenzie and has built a reputation for being a tough test. Many runners describe it as hilly and it provides an excellent opportunity to assess winter fitness. Although open to a wide range of abilities, organisers recommend that participants have previously completed a 10K.
The newly renamed race honours Robert Rogerson, who has made a significant contribution to Kirkintilloch Olympians for more than 25 years. Rogerson has served as a club secretary and race organiser and has been involved in the 12.5K since its inception. The tribute recognises his longstanding role in shaping the event and supporting the club’s development.
Once again the 12.5K race forms part of the Kirkintilloch Festival of Running, which also features the Neil McCover Memorial Half Marathon and a 5K fun run. The half marathon, previously held in October, moved to February in 2024 and continues to attract both first time runners and competitive club athletes.
Covering a scenic 13.1 mile route through local towns and villages, the race celebrates the legacy of former club chair and coach Neil McCover. It is well known for producing personal best performances and welcomes serving and retired police officers who compete for the Neil McCover trophy each year.
