English Riviera Race 2026

Closed Road Racing Comes To The English Riviera

New closed road race launches...

A new addition to the South West running calendar arrives in 2026 as the English Riviera Race makes its debut as part of the English Riviera Sports Festival in Torquay.

The event will take place on a fully closed road course in the centre of the popular seaside town, giving runners the opportunity to race on smooth tarmac roads without traffic. Starting and finishing beside Torre Abbey Meadows, the route follows the seafront towards Preston before returning along the same stretch and looping around the rear of Torre Abbey.

The accurately measured 5K circuit features a largely flat profile with a small amount of climbing to add variety across each lap. Runners can choose either the 5K distance or the 10K option, which consists of two laps of the course. Those tackling the longer distance will also receive split times for each lap.

With views across Tor Bay and long sections along the waterfront, the race combines fast road running with one of the country's most recognisable coastal settings. The closed road format is expected to appeal to runners targeting quick times as well as those looking to enjoy a race day atmosphere in a scenic location.

The event will be run under UK Athletics rules, with results appearing on Power of 10. Professional chip timing, a fully marshalled course and race day commentary will help create a competitive but welcoming environment for runners of all abilities.

As a new event within the wider English Riviera Sports Festival, the race adds another opportunity for runners to experience the Devon coastline while taking part in a professionally organised road race. The combination of closed roads, sea views and a fast course could make it one of the region's most attractive new races in 2026.
