Donkey Brae Race

Donkey Grows Up

Celebrate 40 years of this fabulous Fife event...

It's 40 years young for this old donkey as Aberdour's Donkey Brae Race celebrates its milestone outing this summer. Returning to the scenic coastal town on 28 July the event will once again be part of the annual Aberdour Festival - 'possibly the best small festival of Scotland’s summer.'

Organisers say: "Our first event took place in the summer of 1984 with only six runners! In 2024 there'll be races for all abilities, a well-stocked bar, food stalls, village market, toilets, sunshine! We've got it all."

Aberdour Festival involves a packed 10-day programme of music, events and culture that has something for everyone, all set in the beautiful Fife village of Aberdour. Race day falls on the opening weekend and includes, as always, two race distances - 2 mile and 7 mile.

The 7 mile scenic course is of mixed terrain over undulating coastal paths between Aberdour and Dalgety Bay while the 2 mile race stays within Aberdour, but also includes a stretch through the woods. Both races finish with the short climb up the Donkey Brae and then runners enter the field to the buzz of the village market crowds.

There is also a fun run which follows a shorter route around the Silver Sands Playing Fields, it is ideal for families who want to engage in fun physical activity.

As well as the races there will be the famous village market with a full bar, games for all the family, carnival attractions, food trucks, local craft vendors and more; so why not bring your friends and family along and enjoy a great day out?
