Devil o' the Highlands Footrace

Devilishly Great Race

There's a new springtime race date for the 2025 edition of this popular ultra...

The West Highland Way is one of Scotland's most iconic routes, a challenge that has inspired walkers and runners for years. One of the 'Way's' most enduring events is the Devil o' the Highlands race which is a 42 mile point-to-point trail ultra that sees runners cover the distancei from Tyndrum to Fort William.

The event was first run in 2003 making it the second oldest ultramarathon in Scotland (after the West Highland Way Race). Stretching over the second half of the West Highland Way, it is one of Scotland’s most popular ultras and at 42 miles and 6500 feet of elevation, the route winds through some of Scotland’s most picturesque scenery.

In 2025 there will be an alteration to the race's usual August date with a new race date of 26 April scheduled. There will also be a change in race date for the Highland Fling event which is the Devil o' the Highlands' better-known sister race (20 September, 2025).

Speaking about the decision to move the dates, organisers say: "Due to circumstances outwith our control, the dates of our two events which take place on the West Highland Way trail are changing. We have been working hard over the past year with venues, landowners, local businesses and authorities to find a way for the two events to continue to take place."

Those taking part in The Devil have 12 hours to complete the distance which consists of 95% trail and 5% road surfaces. There are free showers at the finish for all entrants and free home-made soup, hot food and drinks as well. The perfect finish to a day's running.
