Countdown To G2E 2024
Runners will soon be traversing Scotland from Glasgow to Edinburgh...
The countdown is on for runners taking on this year's Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra (G2E Ultra) which will see participants heading from one side of the country to the other in just over two weeks time on 5 October.
The G2E Ultra starts in Glasgow from the iconic Riverside Museum which sits beside the Victorian Tall Ship Glenlee and the brand new Govan/Partick bridge. From this fantastic start point, runners then follow the River Kelvin, Sustrans Route 754, the Forth and Clyde Canal, the Union Canals, and the Water of Leith to make their way to Edinburgh's Athletics Track in the Saughton Sports Complex.
For those taking part there is plenty of interest in the route and supporters will also get to appreciate the highlights of both cities. The route also passes the Falkirk Wheel and the Antonine Wall, the Northernmost point of the Roman Empire (dating back to AD 142).
The top 100 finishers will earn a Gold G2E Ultra Medal, 101-200 finishers earn a Silver G2E Ultra Medal and 201+ finishers earn the Bronze G2E Ultra Medal. There will also be additional Bespoke GB Ultras Trophies for the Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female finishers.
The current race records are held by Marco Consani (6:19) in 2014 and Lucy Colquhoun (6:50) in 2009. A new course was introduced after these records were achieved and the times to beat now are Jarlath McKenna's 6:49 which he set in 2023 and Emily Mills' 8:27 which was also achieved in 2023.
