Runners in the Coventry Half Marathon

Cultured running in Coventry this October

Festival fun and run in this resilient city

A new October date for the Festival of Running plus the hosting of the UK City of Culture in 2021 means a double cause for celebration in Coventry. Music, dance, theatre and running will provide a much needed boost for the mind and body – both of which have suffered during the global pandemic.

Organisers Coventry University Students’ Union has confirmed that the Coventry Festival of Running will go ahead on Sunday 31 October. This includes the Coventry Half Marathon, 5K and Wheelchair 2.5K.

The Half Marathon takes runners on a tour of the city, passing famous landmarks such as the Lady Godiva statue then heads out into the countryside and through surrounding villages before returning to the city and the finish at the Cathedral. The autumn date is a realistic one for a first timer to the distance and there is help available in the form of training plans on the Festival of Running website.

The 5K also passes the Lady Godiva statue as part of double loop around the city centre. Short, sweet and equally historic, this race is ideal for people who took up running during the third lockdown and not only want to continue, but would like to test themselves.

Competitors in the Wheelchair 2.5K follow a loop around the centre and finish at the Cathedral.

Due to the pandemic, Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 now begins in May and ends in May 2022. The Festival of Running is one of several highlights in what organiser Matt Wall says: “Promises to be a memorable year for the city.”

More information about the rescheduled date and how to enter the Half Marathon or 5K, visit the
Coventry Festival of Running website.
