Organised for the third year by Les and Jude Moulsdale on behalf of Asthma UK, the event has grown within a short space of time and as proof of that popularity, many runners make a repeat visit. Wind, rain or snow, they are eager to support this worthy cause while enjoying a scenic run along the canal at Ellesmere. There was a choice of 10K or 5K and a virtual run.

The Market Hall in Ellesmere was the venue for registration and collection of race numbers before the participants made their way to the start at the canal by Tesco. They followed a flat course towards Colemere and back again, completing a lap around the Mere as they did so.

One four-legged participant was extra keen, running past others to complete almost two laps of the course. This speedy canine was rewarded with a bespoke medal along with the rest of the finishers.

Lending his support was Dana Power, or as he is more familiarly known ‘Puff the Asthma Dragon’, who was flown in by helicopter that morning to be at the event. A keen Shrewsbury Town FC supporter he ran, football scarf in hand while being cheered on by other runners and marshals.

Then back to the Market Hall to dry out, thaw out with a hot drink and refuel with a homemade cake or two. There was a Brown Bag raffle and the proceeds of that together with the refreshments mean the fundraising total has nudged past £3,000.
