Dragon Boats steer the launch of 7th Worcester City Runs
It was on your marks, paddles ready and go as organisers and sponsors joined Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club for a floating launch of the Worcester City Runs. Several members of the boat club will be taking part in this ‘7 on the Severn’ on the 5-6 September as training for their fast moving sport.
2020 is the seventh year of the Air Products Worcester City Runs organised by Events of the North in partnership with Worcester City Council. It includes a half marathon, 10K and Young Athletes Run with an exciting new addition – ‘Families on Track’ – involving the completion of a 10K as a continuous relay.
Families on Track was designed by Paula Radcliffe who is passionate about families taking part in exercise in a fun way and enjoying the benefits of doing so. Parents as well as children can be competitive in a safe and controlled environment while choosing any combination of distances – 1K, 500m and 250m to equal 10K in total. The event is powered by Atom Bank and every team member will receive a T-shirt, medal and goody bag.
Paula’s Families on Track is held on the Saturday with wave 1 at 11.15am and wave 2 at 12.30pm. This will get Worcester City Runs 2020 off to a running start followed by the half marathon on Sunday at 9am then the 10K at 9.45am. Representatives from the Boat Club aim to run in one of these races alongside thousands of club athletes, fun runners and charity supporterd.
The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer trust is the official charity partner for the second year and invites runners to join their team and fundraise for this worthy local cause.
Entries have opened with ‘Early Bird’ prices available until Saturday 29 February. Visit the Worcester City Runs website.
