Jordan Thomas and Emma Taylor win at the Westbridge 5

Thomas & Taylor Triumph At Westbridge

Top performances from the City of Stoke AC duo...

The hills were alive with the sound of... pounding feet, as runners climbed (and climbed) at the Westbridge 5 (Sunday 4 June). There were victories for Jordan Thomas and Emma Taylor at Race 7 in the NSRRA League Programme.

A change is as good as a rest as they say. Though there was no rest for over 150 runners who pitted themselves against the new course – an alternative route due to construction work at Westbridge Park this summer.

Blue skies and sunshine were the order of the day as runners gathered at Alleynes Sports Centre, Stone, ready for the start at 9.30am close to the venue. Ahead of them lay a hilly course around Oulton including a ford and bridge crossing in very warm conditions, making it a challenging prospect whatever their level of experience. However, there was a post-race bespoke beer to look forward to!

The racing was hot along with the weather as they made their way round, ably assisted by Danny Soltys (lead bike) and Emma Phillips (tail runner) with support and encouragement from the volunteers. Jordan Thomas of City of Stoke AC won in 27:03 followed by Samuel Crozier of Newcastle (Staffs) AC in 27:21. Carl Moulton of Boalloy RC was third in 27:29.

There were more reasons for City of Stoke AC to celebrate with Emma Taylor the women’s winner in 30:05. Isabella Shaw of Trentham RC was the second female in 32:51 and Tracy Bloor third female in 34:04.

The full set of results is available to view at the runABC Midlands Race Listings page.

The bespoke beer courtesy of Lymestone Brewery was especially welcome as were the sports massages from Kinisi. Free race photos thanks to Mick Hall and Pau Run and Ride Trentham and last but certainly not least those all-important NSRRA points!

The question is: will the Westbridge 5 return to its usual location in 2024?
