Away they go at the Shelford Fun Run 5K

Race or your pace at Shelford Fun Run 5K

The split start will enable runners to run either event.

The Shelford Fun Run is warming up ahead of Sunday (11 September) where participants of all ages go off like a rocket or take it nice and easy instead. They will have a closed road course to look forward to whatever their pace and a medal for their efforts.

This is a fundraising event for Shelford Playscape – an inclusive play area in the centre of this Cambridgeshire village and for the benefit of everyone. The Shelford Playscape committee are looking to raise money for the provision of a skateboarding/scooting area (‘Wheelscape’) at the recreation ground to be enjoyed by the young and young-at-heart. Funds from this year’s event will go towards its construction.

There is a UKA registered 5K for those wanting a good competitive race and a PB into the bargain; and a 5K Fun Run for children, families and anyone happy to get round and enjoy the moment. Both these 5K’s are chip timed.

It all begins with a warm up from Level Up Gym at 10.15am to get the muscles moving followed by the 5K race and 5K fun run. A staggered start will be in operation along with social distancing as per the measures adopted by sports events during the pandemic.

Faster runners go on the sound of the first horn. As soon as they have left, entrants in the fun run move up and go on the sound of the second horn. Both groups follow a fast and flat course through attractive villages in South Cambridgeshire and finish back at Great Shelford Recreation Ground.

Medals, fruit and water at the finish and a coffee stall plus ice cream van for a post-run treat.

There are no on the day entries so sign up by 3pm Thursday 8 September at the Shelford Fun Run website.
