Can You Beat The Boat Back To Windsor?
A race with a twist on the Thames...
Some races are about chasing a PB. Others are about beating the runner next to you. Beat The Boat asks a different question altogether: can you outrun a boat?
Returning to Windsor and Eton on Sunday 12 July 2026, this unique 10K challenge combines trail running, riverside scenery and a healthy dose of fun as runners take on a target pace boat travelling along the River Thames.
Starting from The Brocas in Eton, participants follow an out and back route along the Thames Path beneath the backdrop of Windsor Castle. The course is suitable for runners of all abilities, but the real attraction is the moving target on the water. Packed with supporters, the spectator boat tracks the race and attempts to beat runners back to the finish line.
The concept has helped Beat The Boat stand out on the South running calendar. Rather than focusing solely on finishing times, runners find themselves glancing across the river, judging the boat's progress and wondering whether they can stay ahead. It creates a race day atmosphere unlike almost any other 10K in the country.
The riverside setting adds plenty of appeal too. The Thames Path provides a largely traffic free route through some of Berkshire's most picturesque scenery, with stretches beside the river offering uninterrupted views and plenty of encouragement from spectators on both land and water.
A children's fun run also forms part of the event, making it a family friendly morning out as well as a race. Friends and relatives can even board the spectator boats themselves, turning supporters into part of the action.
For runners looking for something a little different from the usual road race experience, Beat The Boat delivers exactly that. Whether you're chasing a fast 10K, running for fun or simply determined not to be beaten by a boat, this is one race that guarantees plenty of smiles from start to finish.
A small number of entries remain for the 2026 event via Sport Systems here.
