Summer Trail Running Through Cannock Chase Forest
Forest trails in summer sunshine...
Runners will return to the trails of Cannock Chase Forest on 5 July 2026 as the Cannock Chase Forest Half Marathon and 10K take place in their new summer slot.
Traditionally held during the autumn, the event has moved to July, giving participants the chance to experience the forest under summer conditions. The races start from Cannock Chase Forest near Rugeley and take runners through a network of woodland trails that have helped make the event a popular fixture on the regional running calendar.
Participants can choose between the Half Marathon and 10K distances, with both routes following forest tracks and undulating terrain through one of Staffordshire's best known outdoor locations. While the courses are challenging in places, they are open to runners of all abilities, from those tackling their first trail event to experienced competitors looking for a summer test.
Cannock Chase is renowned for its extensive woodland, varied trail network and peaceful surroundings. The combination of shaded paths, rolling hills and natural scenery creates a running experience that feels very different from a road race, with changing views throughout the course.
The event has continued to grow in popularity thanks to its welcoming atmosphere and scenic setting. The mixture of runnable forest trails and tougher climbing sections provides a balanced challenge, rewarding both endurance and smart pacing.
For runners building towards autumn goals, the race offers a useful mid season challenge, while others will simply enjoy the opportunity to explore Cannock Chase on foot. With woodland scenery, summer conditions and a choice of distances, the event remains one of Staffordshire's standout trail running occasions.
The combination of forest terrain, natural surroundings and a friendly event atmosphere makes the Cannock Chase Forest Half Marathon and 10K appealing to a wide range of runners. Whether aiming for a strong performance or an enjoyable day on the trails, participants can look forward to a memorable run through one of the Midlands' most popular outdoor destinations.
