Bishop Hill Race Provides Early Season Test
Sign up for some steep hill bashing and classic early season racing at Bishop Hill...
The Bishop Hill Adult and Junior Races will return to the Lomond Hills on 1 March 2026, offering runners the chance to test themselves with an early season hill race. A long standing fixture on the calendar, the Bishop Hill race is firmly aimed at those who already have some running experience!
The race is short but uncompromising, combining paths and open hill terrain to pack a lot into a compact route. It is renowned for delivering a proper test of strength and skill, along with one of the most enjoyable descents in Scottish hill racing. The event has built a loyal following over the years thanks to its friendly atmosphere and slick organisation, something that participants regularly comment on.
After the 2023 edition saw Jamie Crowe of Central AC break the long standing course record, the bar has been set high. For 2026 there is extra incentive, with an additional £50 on top of the usual generous prizes available if either the men’s or women’s course record is broken.
Organisers are also keen to continue encouraging young runners into the sport. Alongside the adult race, the under 16 junior event provides a rare opportunity for youngsters to experience hill racing in a supportive environment. Juniors will be racing for glory, medals, sweets, soup and cake, while category winners will be recognised at the prizegiving.
Post race hospitality is very much part of the Bishop Hill experience, with hot soup and prizes on offer across the age categories up to V60. The welcoming atmosphere was summed up by one recent participant, Carolyn Haddow, who said: "What a wonderfully friendly and well run event. Soup was delicious and I loved my tea in the pretty china teacups!"
