MOKRUN Celebrates 21 Years!
As it celebrates its 21st year, MOKRUN continues to offer a blend of scenic racing, local hospitality and unforgettable post race celebrations...
The Mull of Kintyre Half Marathon and 10K Festival Weekend returns 23/24 May 2026, marking a special milestone as the event celebrates 21 years of running in Campbeltown. Known affectionately as MOKRUN, this much loved festival has built a reputation for combining memorable racing with a full weekend of activities that draw runners from across the UK.
Set against the striking scenery of the Mull of Kintyre, the 2026 edition promises another standout weekend of sport and social events and with places traditionally in high demand, runners are encouraged to secure their entry early. Organisers say: "Over the years MOKRUN has become a fixture in many runners’ calendars, valued as much for its sense of occasion as for the quality of its courses."
The weekend begins with the Junior Event, offering a fun and engaging race for children providing them with the chance to be part of the festival atmosphere that defines the weekend. On Sunday the main races take centre stage with both the Half Marathon and 10K.
The 10K follows a scenic, largely flat route around Campbeltown Loch, making it an attractive option for runners targeting a personal best. The Half Marathon provides a tougher but rewarding challenge, taking runners through the surrounding countryside and onto the sands of Machrihanish Beach, where panoramic views stretch across to Islay, Jura and Gigha.
Following the racing, the celebrations continue with a ceilidh on Sunday evening featuring live music from local favourites Ceol an Aire. Kilts are optional but strongly encouraged!
A defining feature of the weekend is the warmth of support on the course and at the finish line. Every finisher is announced by name as they cross the line, with crowds cheering throughout. Finishers also receive a generous goody bag which includes a handmade Campbeltown pottery medal, a t-shirt and other treats. Post race refreshments are another highlight, with the famous Danish pastries and hot drinks provided by a local bakery giving runners a well earned reward.
