A Roving We Will Go!
This 30K multi-terrain event in the Derwent Valley is tough yet rewarding...
The Belper Rover is a challenging scenic circular 30K fell race that sees runners traverse footpaths, bridleways and public roads on what is billed as a 'tough yet rewarding day in the Derwent Valley'.
The route incorporates ancient roman roads once the haunt of highwaymen, farmland, ancient woodland and parts of the Midshires way. The route also includes hills so participants need to be prepared for those but we have it on good authority that the views from the top will be worth the pain of climbing.
The surrounding countryside is equally stunning and part of the appeal of this event together with the organisation and atmosphere. It is a test of endurance though, with organisers saying: "There are more than a few stiles to climb over and hills to climb up making it a fair old challenge; however, marshals on the course and the water stations will encourage everyone to the end."
The challenge clearly didn't phase previous entrant Ade McCordick who commented: "Fantastic day out, thank you all for a really well organised event! The beer and potato was an unexpected bonus and given that there were multiple sections that I kept thinking that I’d have to revisit, I’ll just have to come back and do it all over again."
As Ade mentions, not only will those taking part recieve a medal for their efforts, their appetites will also be rewarded with a baked potato and filling promised post race! Mmmmm.....
