Battle Of Brampton Valley
Now’s the time to lace up and pick your side. Will it be Leicestershire or Northamptonshire?
The Battle of the Brampton Valley Way is back, offering runners a unique Leicestershire vs. Northamptonshire showdown along one of the region’s most scenic routes. Taking place on 13 April, this 28-mile ultra challenge will see participants tackle the full length of the Brampton Valley Way - a traffic-free, super-flat trail cutting through the heart of rural Northamptonshire.
For seasoned Tunnel Vision fans, this race takes things up a notch - runners will traverse the entire 14-mile route out and back, passing through the eerie, pitch-black railway tunnels of Oxendon and Kelmarsh, where torches are mandatory.
The real battle, however, lies in choosing which starting point to represent: Market Harborough in Leicestershire or Northampton in Northamptonshire. With 100 runners setting off from each end, every participant’s time will contribute to their county’s overall performance, determined by a carefully constructed mathematical model. A timing mat at both ends ensures accurate split times and fierce competition to settle the score between the two counties.
Organisers say: "Despite its ultra-distance status, the modest 280m elevation gain makes this race an ideal stepping stone for runners looking to go beyond a marathon. Whether you’re testing your endurance or just looking for a race with a twist, this event delivers an unforgettable experience."
As with all Race Harborough events, race photos are free, allowing runners to relive their achievement without extra cost. More importantly, the 2025 edition will focus on supporting local charities, with donations encouraged for the Jubilee Foodbank in Market Harborough and the Weston Favell Centre Foodbank in Northampton.
