Boost for local charities as Always Aim High Virtual Events keep on running

Local charities benefit from the community active Always Aim High Virtual Events

Always Aim High Virtual Events have been one of this year’s success stories in the running/cycling/triathlon community as their series of challenges have proved popular during the crisis. Increasing numbers of people have run, walked or cycled a range of distances and helped to raise thousands of pounds for local charities, in desperate need during the pandemic.

This year is the 10th anniversary for Always Aim High Events who had created a busy programme to mark the occasion. Thrown a curveball in the shape of Covid-19 they adapted to the situation and, as a company with deep ties to the local area they wanted to support organisations such as Mountain Rescue, Hope House Ty Gobaith and Velindre Cancer Care Centre. Their not-for-profit virtual events were created for this purpose and as a morale booster for their loyal following.

The virtual events made their debut in April and since then this monthly series of challenges has acted as a focus for runners, cyclists and triathletes who didn’t want to let their training go to waste. They were preparing for the 2020 race season when the coronavirus hit the UK and lockdown on 23 March stopped them in their tracks. This set of challenges enabled them to stay active and motivated and they received an iconic, bespoke slate coaster and buff for their efforts.

Participants of all ages have run a half marathon in 24 hours; run/walked 25km to 100 miles; cycled 100km to 500km; climbed the equivalent of Mont Blanc on their own stairs or completed a duathlon. There have been weekly prize draws with a kit and nutrition bundle for the lucky winner.

The organisers are keen for live races to return but in the meantime as Director Tim Lloyd says: “ We've been thrilled with how well the Virtual Events have been received and sincerely thank all who took part for their continuing support.”
