3 Village 5 and 10 Mile races

Running Through The Villages

Head to Cumbria for 5 or 10 miles of spring running fun...

Entries are filling fast for the popular 3 Village 5 and 10 Mile races, which will take place on Sunday 12 April near Wetheral in Cumbria. The event, which traditionally takes place earlier in the spring, has been moved back by a week this year due to the Easter calendar. Despite this demand has been particularly strong, with fewer than 10 places remaining in the 10 mile race and limited entries left in the 5 mile event.

Starting near the Wheatsheaf Inn and finishing at Wetheral Community Hall, both races take runners along quiet country roads through a series of picturesque villages on the outskirts of Carlisle. The routes are best described as undulating, offering a steady challenge with rolling elevation that rewards controlled pacing.

The 5 mile course features approximately 233 feet of ascent, while the 10 mile route almost doubles that, making it an ideal test for runners building towards spring marathons such as the London Marathon and Manchester Marathon. Organisers say: "Many participants use the race as a key part of their preparation, combining race day atmosphere with a realistic assessment of fitness and pacing."

The race also boasts a strong competitive history, with course records in the 5 mile event held by Mick Hill of Leeds City AC and Fiona Todd of Border Harriers, while the 10 mile records are held by James Douglas and Dumfries Running Club’s Joasia Zakrzewski.

All finishers will receive a bespoke medal celebrating the surrounding villages, adding to the event’s reputation for combining scenic running with a welcoming atmosphere.

With places nearly sold out and race day fast approaching, organisers are encouraging anyone still considering entering to act quickly to secure a spot!
