Nicky Spinks

Record Reclaimed

Nicky Spinks was on record-breaking form in the Lake District over the weekend...

Yorkshire ultra runner and farmer, Nicky Spinks, made a successful attempt on the Lake District 24-hour record over the weekend (14-15 August) breaking the previous record of 65 peaks set by Carol Morgan in 2020.

Nicky summited the same amount of peaks as Carol did in 2020, but did so in a faster time – summiting the 65 peaks and returning to the start in Braithwaite in a time of 23 hours and 45 minutes*.

The epic challenge sees runners summiting as many peaks over 2,000ft and returning to the same starting point within a 24-hour period. The record can be broken by either adding another 2,000ft summit or summiting the same amount of peaks as the previous record, but doing so in a faster time.

The inspirational 54-year-old inov-8 ambassador and breast cancer survivor said: "From setting off at 3am on Saturday with leg 1 support, watching the sunrise and then having three great strong legs to tiredness, a bit of sickness and some clag on the later legs which slowed the job down.

"Into the sunset and the last two anchor legs. Putting everything in and getting the result I wanted. A huge thank you to all my support. I achieved a new Ladies Lake District 24 hour record of 65 peaks in 23.45 hours."

Prior to Carol setting the previous record of 65 peaks in 2020, Nicky had held the record with 64 peaks which she set in 2011.

Through her running, Nicky raises money for cancer charity Odyssey. Over the past decade and numerous running challenges, she has raised over £21,000. If you’d like to support Nicky’s fundraising, you can donate here at her JustGiving page.
