Burnsall Trail Race

Due North Trilogy

It doesn't get much better than trail racing in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales...

Why run in one event when you can run in three? And when you find out that all three are beautiful trail races set in the Yorkshire Dales then it certainly seems like an attractive prospect for 2023. The Due North trail half marathon series is all set for next year with races taking place in April, May and September and with news that 10K distances have also been added as options there really is more reason than ever to take part.

The first race of the trilogy is the Burnsall Half and it will take place on 22 April at the beautiful riverside location of Burnsall. Taking in several sections of the Dales Way Footpath with around 500m of ascent, climbs are rewarded with 360 degree views of the Yorkshire Dales. Riverside paths, stone tracks and open fields provide a great mix of terrain suitable for those new to trail running but also plenty of challenges and interest for the more experienced trail runner.

Burnsall 10K will take place on the same day and involves runners completing the first 10K of the half marathon route. Organisers said: "The route is actually closer to 11K but as with most trail race courses, it is not about the accuracy of a measured course, but the joy of running in such stunning countryside which makes the race so special."

The Kettlewell (Skirfare) Half is scheduled for 27 May and takes runners over three steep climbs with each descent thrilling enough to give them the adrenaline rush ready to take on the next climb. Climbing these hills will reward runners with spectacular views of Wharfedale, some of the most beautiful scenery in the Yorkshire Dales. The Kettlewell 10K will take the same route as the half marathon with runners taking on the big climb out of Arncliffe to the top of Arncliffe Moor.

Completing the trilogy, the Skipton Half will take place in the autumn on a date yet to be confirmed. The race starts with a climb over Sharphaw before dropping down to the picturesque village of Hetton. Runners will pass rivers, reservoirs, moorland and fields on this stunning route.
